As an educator, I do not use web authoring much in the classroom. Our district this year is recommending each teacher to have a website for their classroom. I think that is an awesome idea because when students are absent from school, they can locate their teacher’s website to resume for their missed assignment.

I incorporate multimedia into my classroom weekly. I use PowerPoint to introduce difficult subjects to students. I also allow students to create his/her own PowerPoint on their favorite novel. Students are very fund of PowerPoint because of the different pictures and sound effect.

Integrating spreadsheets into the classroom is an excellent tool for organization. I incorporate spreadsheets into my classroom to create charts and graphs for students to see their academic performance skills. I also use spreadsheets to determine students’ weakness and strengths in the classroom. It is an excellent tool for me to stay organize and on track of all my students.

How can you make students “think outside the box”? Creating databases in the classroom help students to think critically and analytically. Assisting students in creating a database can enhance their learning capabilities. I think allowing students to create database in the classroom is an excellent tool for learning and they can become more receptive to higher order thinking questions.

Students are responsive more when they use graphic organizers. Graphic organizers help students to communicate more effectively. In English, students use cluster web and spider diagrams to help assist with developing ideas. Students can brainstorm and write freely when they are exposed to visual instructions.

Digital cameras are very popular, especially in the classroom settings. When using digital cameras, pictures are available, saved in graphic format, and students can transfer the pictures to the computer. Students enjoy taking pictures and they will become more involved in the subject if they are allowed to take pictures and publish their pictures in the classroom.

Word Processing is an excellent tool for students. It allows students to type research papers and reports for school. It also allows them to check spelling and grammar along with using a dictionary/thesaurus if necessary. Using the Internet in a k-12 educational setting is very vital for today’s society. Technology and Internet prepares students for the world in front of them. The Internet expands the resources and eliminates time for major projects, discussions, and group activity. The Internet is only another resource tool to help further students and teachers in education. However, students must have a purpose fro wanting to use the Internet.

Children come to school with a variety of learning skills. Teachers using portfolios in the classroom is very essential to the students. Teachers can observe student performance and student growth. I often use writing portfolios in the classroom to help student with their writing skills. Students often enjoy the writing portfolio because they can see how their writing have improved since the first start of school. Portfolios are an excellent tool in the classroom.

As a highly qualified educator, I incorporate technology throughout my classroom in various ways. Technology is a major component of education in this 21st century. For example, the State of Alabama has incorporated a new technology system for teachers, students, parents, and administrators. At the same time, I incorporate PowerPoint1, text messaging, and other components of technology in my classroom to help my students advance academically and technologically.

Digital Native – a person who was born after the general implementation of digital technology, and as a result, has a familiarity with digital technology such as computers, the Internet, mobile phones, and MP3s over their whole lives.

Digital Immigrants- is an individual who was born before the existence of digital technology and adopted it to some extent later.

Netiquette – is a set of social conventions that facilitate interaction over networks, ranging from Usenet and mailing lists to blog and forums.

Web Publishing- provides custom web design, web development, hosting, e-commerce, and e-business.

Web 2.0 – is commonly associated with web applications that facilitate interactive information sharing, interoperability, user-centered design, and collaboration on the World Wide Web.

Text Messaging- refers to the exchange of brief written messages between fixed-lined phone or mobile phone and fixed or portable devices over a network.

Wifi – is a trademark of the Wi-Fi Alliance that manufactures may use to brand certified products that belong to a class of wireless local area network devices based on the IEEE 802.11 standards, which is far by the most widespread WLAN class today.
